Latest Regulations
As of January 1, 2026, China has tightened its rules on drone use, officially classifying drones as aircraft under national aviation law. Many popular locations, including major cities and historical sites, are now restricted without special permission.
- Real-name registration required for nearly all drones.
- Drones are required to be incapable of flight before activation and after deactivation, and all drones must be equipped with an operational identification module. This may result in many older models being unusable in China.
- Maximum altitude: 120 m AGL (Above Ground Level). If you take off from the top of a building that is 60 meters high, you can only fly up to a maximum of 60 meters.
- DJI maps do not show all restricted zones, so pilots must cross-reference the official CAAC maps. Flying without compliance may result in fines or confiscation.
